Asian golden cat
(Pardofelis temminckii temminckii)
IUCN : NEAR THREATENED
Nom français : Chat doré d'Asie
Status in captivity : Asian golden cats are not common in captivity but are doing quite well in Europe where they're targetted by a breeding program. It's surprisingly rare in zoos around USA. In Asia, the commonest subspecies is the nominate, which is found in many zoos around Thailand, Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia. Breeding rarely occurs there.
Remarks : A single specimen lives in a horribly small concrete cage in the old small mammals building. It should be moved in a new exhibit fairly soon.
